Film Screening Event at Taragaon Next

Join us this Jan 18th for a Film Screening event happening in collaboration with Oscar International College - College of film studies.
The four films reflect the diverse perspectives of the four filmmakers into the social-cultural issues of Nepal as well as their abstractions.

The film screening at Taragaon will showcase the following films like:

1) 'Butte Jama' by Kala Sangroula (15 mins): Baisakhi's 9-years-old girl,lives with her grandmother in a Eastern Terai village of Nepal in the indigeneous community (Caste Tajpuriya). She always wear same skirt which is old and short and on the new year eve she desires new red flower printed skirt which are wears by the same age group of the girls in the different community.Due to her grandmother's poverty , will she be able to fulfill her grand dauhter desire by selling pigeon?sire by selling pigeon?

2) 'Love? Lust? Life?' by Utpal Jha(21 mins): A young poet takes a surrealistic plunge as he analyzes and constructs his poem in progress.

3) 'Savitri' by Sujit Bidari (14 mins): Is it possible for the heart to remain unwavering, devoted to just one person? Even in a committed relationship, can you still find yourself drawn to someone else?" Savitri explores this inner conflict through the life of a government employee, Savitri, who endures her monotonous days alongside her unemployed husband in a society steeped in patriarchy.

4) 'Kafal Pakyo' by Niranjan Raj Bhetwal (16 mins): The film is set in the suburbs of Nepal during the civil war period, where most men were either abroad or displaced because of the war. Sushmadevi, a mother of two sons whose husband is abroad, directs her sons to take their cow for fertilization. As the boys bring back the cow, worshiped as a mother and giver, they are faced with a new realization. While all these happening, a cuckoo bird known as Kafal Pakyo among the locals, is singing.

These films were created by the filmmakers when they were graduating from film school before transitioning into the professional world of Nepali cinema.The screening would contribute to understanding Nepali society as well as the creative landscape of Nepal from the lens of the filmmakers.
